Splash screen question

Good afternoon,

We are getting close to a have beta version of our first Mac OS X game, a
port of a successful Windows title.  I attempted to redesign the interface
to Apple Human Interface guidelines (i.e., to be a proper Mac product, not
an obvious Windows port), but I have not been able to answer one simple
question about splash screens:

Are splash screens common and/or acceptable on Mac OS X games?

We have some nice artwork that we display in a window briefly (while some
data loads, in theory, but the delay on modern machines is negligible).  I
cannot find anything in the aforementioned guidelines about splash screens
other than an oblique reference suggesting that they do exist in OS X.

The game in question is a casual game, windowed (not full screen), with a
standard menu bar and common controls, so nothing too unusual.
