  AAAAAARRRGGHHH!!! So this was it!!!! A couple of months ago, I stood
away working for 42 continuous hours trying to track down this bug. I
never realized of the double prepareMovie but the result was me moving
everything from prepareMovie to startMovie.

Thanks for the heads up, Alex.

PS: then I had to fight with linked media (external casts and bitmaps)
inconsistently not found because of the large pathNames (more than 128
chars).
